Design & Technology

Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge, and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.

Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. Design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.

We offer GCSE courses in Resistant Materials, Food Technology and Textiles. We also run weekly clubs, and support competitions and other school events, such as building props and set for Expressive Arts productions.

Food Preparation and Nutrition

Food Preparation and Nutrition is a challenging, creative and practical subject. Students draw on disciplines such as mathematics, biology and chemistry to develop and broaden their knowledge of food nutrition and cooking skills.

Through creative teaching pupils are encouraged to take risks, develop and extend their food skills and ideas.  Pupils are taught in a dedicated, well equipped food classroom which is stimulating, challenging and engaging.

We currently offer the EDUQAS Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE course. Practical and investigative work is at the heart of the course and, through this, students gain a sound understanding of how food science is carried out. Expectations of food quality and safe practice are very high and food production is of restaurant quality.
