At Bohunt School we believe in celebrating the success of our ‘game-changers’ as much as possible.
This term we are delighted to recognise one of our students, Sebastian, a current Yr 7 student.
Sebastian has enjoyed his first year at the school, being part of the school’s string quartet, guitar ensemble and orchestra. He was one of two violinists behind the scenes each night during our recent Beauty & The Beast production.
Sebastian achieved Distinction in his Grade 8 viola exam on 2 July and a Distinction in his Grade 8 violin exam just before the Easter holidays.
Earlier this year he was awarded The Gordon Cawthorne Memorial Trophy for the performer who makes the most impression on the adjudicators representing the Under 14’s at the Portsmouth Music Festival. He also won the Benny Freedman Cup for winning the 20th / 21st Century Solo Grade 8-/8+ category for violin and the G.W Wall Cup for the unaccompanied Bach Solo, this time on viola.
Sebastian is a scholar and member of the Hampshire Music Hub, an initiative providing music opportunities across Hampshire for young people.
Each Distinction in a Grade 8 instrument is worth 30 UCAS points in the 2019/2020 academic year. Sebastian is a great representative of how hard work, determination and non-academic work can be worth just as much as academic subjects when studying towards further education.
We can’t wait to hear about all of his achievements in his future years at the school.
