Our vision is to create resilient, enthusiastic and confident learners who believe they can succeed. Mathematics provides students with uniquely powerful ways to describe, analyse and understand the world. It should stimulate moments of pleasure and wonder for all students when they solve a problem for the first time, discover a more elegant solution, or notice hidden connections. Students who are functional in mathematics are able to think independently in applied and abstract ways, and can reason, solve problems and assess risk.
Mathematics is a creative subject. The language of mathematics is international. The subject can break cultural boundaries and its importance is universally accepted by employers, business leaders and innovators. Mathematics has developed over time as a means of solving problems and also as a form of communication.
Every student should leave Bohunt with
•at least life skills – functional, personal finance, workplace demands
•preferably – the ability to apply skills across STEM subjects
•ideally – enjoying as a discipline in its own right
By providing students with a wide range of opportunities to develop their fluency and problem solving skills, we prepare students effectively for the wider world. They will be able to flourish in whatever field they choose due to their ability to think independently, apply reason and problem solve. They will also have the numeracy skills to cope with modern life and be able to understand & analyse the information in the world around them with a shrewd and discerning eye.
