PERI MUSIC TEACHERS BIOGRAPHIES

PIANO & KEYBOARD

Anna Hunt

Anna started learning piano from the age of 4, obtaining Gr.8 (distinction) & ALCM, as well as Gr.8 (distinction) on the cello. She has performed in numerous competitions and concerts on the piano and played the ‘cello in the National Youth Orchestra.

After studying music at St. Peter’ College, Oxford, Anna went on to do a PGCE to teach music at secondary school. She was then a full-time music teacher for the next 8 years (Beaconsfield High School & St. Mary’s School, Ascot) before taking time out to have her 3 children. Anna has been teaching piano at Bohunt for 11 years, and also teaches cello at The Royal School.

Louise Douglas

Louise was educated in Cape Town and studied music at the University of Cape Town and then postgraduate at the Royal College of Music in London. Louise has been living in the UK permanently since 1999. After many years as a full time head of music, Louise is now semi-retired and has lots of free time hobbies including travelling, taking walks and foreign languages. Louise enjoys singing Renaissance choral music and also plays bassoon in a local orchestra. Louise’s favourite composer is the great JS Bach!

Jim O’Neill

Jim is a freelance Piano/keyboard player and has performed with some of the country’s top Function/Tribute bands. He has also been involved in Music Education for the last 20 years & has his own teaching practice as well as working with State & Independent schools in the South East.

He specialises in Rock, Pop and Classical Piano/Keyboard styles giving students the opportunity to play the music they enjoy as well as coaching them to high standards of musicianship through the grades structure.

Lewis Barker

Lewis Barker is an accomplished musician with over a decade of experience in the teaching the piano. Specialising in classical piano, he holds a grade 8 practical piano examination certificate. Lewis has taught in multiple schools across Hampshire. 

Outside of teaching piano at Bohunt, Lewis runs a successful rock music school teaching children and young adults of all ages and abilities, regularly giving opportunities to play live concerts. 

A multi-instrumentalist who can also play the guitar and banjo and is self-taught on the violin. Lewis plays in a local band, most recently selected for BBC introducing in 2024.  

Annette Mathias

Annette was Head of Music at a local prep school, where she spent eight years successfully
developing the music department. In 2017, Annette decided to focus entirely on piano tuition and now teaches in both independent and state schools. She enjoys teaching both practical piano skills and music
theory, helping students understand the foundations of music alongside their performance.

A member of the European Piano Teachers Association, Annette continually updates her
teaching methods through online seminars. Her goal is to instill students with musical skills,
confidence, and a lifelong love of music

BRASS

Emma Button

Emma has been teaching brass for 15 years, ranging from beginners to degree level students, and her focus is on balancing progress and enjoyment, whether a student wants to take graded exams or play for fun.

Emma teaches all instruments from the brass family, including trumpet & cornet, trombone, French horn, and tuba. As well as being a peripatetic teacher, Emma is also an Associate Lecturer at the University of Chichester Conservatoire and has a busy performing schedule with a number of different ensembles.

VOICE

Kirstie Stuart

Kirstie has been a peripatetic singing teacher working for numerous schools since 2021, including Priory School which is also part of the BET trust. Before teaching, Kirstie worked as a vocalist and dancer for multiple cruise lines working and travelling all over the world and gained a BA HONS in Musical Theatre.

Kirstie is a cross-trained teacher meaning she teaches all vocal styles from Classical to Jazz, from Musical Theatre to Pop Vocals. Kirstie looks forward to helping students find their true voices.

WOODWIND

Paula Streeter

Paula has spent the best part of her youth and working life trying to share with anyone and everyone her love for music! 

Paula was taught by Mark Walton who is a renowned clarinettist and saxophonist and has taught in Sussex, Surrey, and Hampshire for many years and also Australia for several Summer Schools!

Paula is a Musical Director of Petworth Town Band and has held this position for 36 years and enjoys working as a conductor with several school ensembles and her local Church Choir.

Naomi Wilson

Naomi Wilson gained her BA hons in Music from Southampton University before studying to teach secondary school Music at Greenwich University, in collaboration with Trinity College of Music.

Since then, Naomi has gained a wealth of experience, working both as a subject lead of a secondary school Music department (7 years) and as a peripatetic woodwind teacher and ensemble director with Hampshire Music Service. After a short career break during which Naomi had 2 children, she returned solely to instrumental teaching and currently delivers woodwind (flute, clarinet, and alto saxophone) and piano lessons in a range of settings with Surrey Arts, and as an independent provider.

Naomi has been delivering Flute lessons at Bohunt for 7 years, and offers the opportunity for all of her pupils to join Bohunt’s fantastic flute ensemble.

LAMDA

Catherine Harper

Catherine has always had an interest in drama from when she trained first to be an Occupational Therapist (OT) and used drama in group work, to then becoming a L.A.M.D.A. teacher in 2014.

Catherine joined Bohunt in 2016 and combines this alongside her OT work. When she is not working Catherine enjoys gardening and singing in a fantastic all female choir. 

Lisa Clarke

Lisa Clarke is a graduate of Guildford School of Acting where she studied Musical Theatre. She has a BA Hons in Theatre, MA in Creating Performance Practice and. PGCE in Secondary Drama.

She has many years of professional experience both internationally and within the UK. Lisa has been a LAMDA Teacher for over 15 years and has recently qualified as a LAMDA Examiner.

STRINGS & PERCUSSION

Asif Gillani

Mr Gillani is a very experienced guitar and ukulele teacher who teaches the music curriculum as well as providing individualised guitar or ukulele tuition, group and whole class ensemble music lessons to primary and secondary aged children. He is a graduate musician and utilises a fun and energetic approach to lessons with an ability to get the very best out of pupils. 

Mr Gillani has successfully enabled his students to pass graded exams for the guitar with Trinity College London from Initial Grade onwards with merits and distinction which has supported children for music scholarships, the 11 + exams and GCSE Music. 

ABBE-LEE LUCAS

Abbe has been a peripatetic music teacher for 15 years, teaching guitar, bass guitar, piano and music theory. Since 2017, Abbe has also taught drums, vocals and ukulele and has performed on bass with Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer) and Chris Wood (Bastille’s Drummer) and gave Chris Evans (TV & Radio presenter) his first guitar lesson. 

Alex Baker

Alex is a professional musician and educator with a decade of teaching experience. Graduating from the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in 2016, Alex has worked as a freelance musician and gained extensive live and studio experience. Most notably performing at Koko Camden, 02 Academy Birmingham, and on the air via BBC Introducing and Eagle radio, in a variety of ensembles.

Performing most weekends and recording throughout the year, Alex uses this real-world experience to enrich and contextualise the lesson content in an engaging way. Opting for a well-rounded and individual approach to 1 on 1 lessons, he is passionate about helping his students reach their musical goals and gaining confidence; whether it be preparing for grades or performing live. 

Catherine Lett

After winning a scholarship to study at the Purcell School of Music, Catherine studied with some of the very greatest musicians including Mateja Marinkovic and John Glickman. Since then, as well as teaching and coaching, she has toured with Pressburg Chamber Soloists and has performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony orchestra and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Catherine also teaches violin at Bedales School and privately, and formed the very successful Three Counties String Ensemble. Most recently Catherine has been appointed as project assistant and Mini Menuhin tutor for a new project at the Yehudi Menuhin School.

Stefan Robinson

Stefan is a freelance musician based with over 20 years of playing experience, both performing live and in the studio.

Stefan joined the steel orchestra ‘Sounds Of Steel’ aged 11 and performed live with them for well over a decade. Some of their performances include The Royal Albert Hall, HM Queen Elizabeth II ‘Royal Jubilee’ as well as successful worldwide tours.

Since graduating from The Academy of Contemporary Music’ in 2015 with a ‘First Class Degree’, Stefan has performed with various Big Bands, Jazz Trios and Reggae artists at festivals and in the studio with performances of note including The Isle of Wight Festival, Boomtown, Secret Garden Party as well as live theatre shows.

Dylan chosen for top Police Cadet Role

Mthulisi joined us from Zimbabwe halfway through Year 9. As well as being recently elected to the Hampshire Youth Parliament, he is also a House Captain for Curie House and a Year 7 mentor.

Millie is a keen mathematician who has demonstrated consistent excellence in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Competition, achieving the top result in her year group for two consecutive years.

Earlier this year Seb competed in for Great Britain in both Norway and France. He was not only selected for the U17 GB Rock Climbing Team despite being only 14, but he also earned podium finishes at the national championships and has reached multiple finals overs the years.

Harry has already achieved incredible success in Athletics. This year alone he moved up to the U17 age category despite being 15 and is ranked as the 7th best 800m runner in the UK for any Year 11.

James is a core member of Bohunt School’s Expressive Arts department and attends every single club in the department. His interests continue outside school. He plays the trombone with the Hampshire County Training Band and has been in musical theatre productions of Les Mis, Anything Goes, Footloose, Legally Blonde, Oliver and Oklahoma.

Rivka’s musicianship is quite superb. She has amazing poise and confidence, and is always polite and friendly. As well as playing multiple instruments to a very high level, Rivka has been awarded a place in the National Youth Choir.

Darcey currently plays in the 1st team for the Hampshire U13 Cricket squad. She was selected from over 300 girls after a rigorous training programme.

Under Mr Duggan’s supervision Bohunt’s Psychology Department has gone from strength to strength. Following excellent GCSE results he was approached by the examination board to write a blog. In the wake of that Bohunt was selected as a GCSE Psychology Ambassador Centre.
